SFA Provides Recommendations to the FHFA on Credit Score Models and Reports Initiative

article by Structured Finance Association

On July 22, 2025, the Structured Finance Association (SFA) submitted a letter to the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) regarding recent changes by the FHFA on how credit scores are used by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (the GSEs). SFA made recommendations on how the FHFA can ensure a smooth transition for securitization market participants, including (1) recommending increased transparency in score disclosures, (2) allowing for cross-comparison of credit scores, (3) addressing alignment with other regulatory frameworks, and (4) the need for adequate transition timelines and approaches to costs associated with adopting new credit scoring models.
