Republican Leadership Renews Request to SEC Regarding Rule for Mandated Climate Change Disclosure

On February 22, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee (HFSC) Patrick McHenry (R-NC), alongside Ranking Member of the Senate Banking Committee, Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), and Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, Bill Huizenga (R-MI), submitted a letter to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler, reiterating previous requests for additional information and records regarding the SEC’s proposed rule on climate disclosure.

This comes as Republican leadership in both chambers continues its scrutiny of the proposed rule and what they consider to be a lack of response from the SEC. Additionally, this letter reaffirms Chairman McHenry’s pledge to make oversight of the financial regulators – and President Biden’s appointees – a key agenda priority for the committee this Congress.
