In an interview with the WSJ, Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner stated that HUD will be part of a task force—that will include the US Treasury and the Federal Housing Finance Agency—to explore the privatization of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Privatization could help with President Trump’s cost cutting measures, with one proposal valuing the Government-Sponsored Enterprises above $330 billion. Additionally, Secretary Turner stated that he intends to analyze all HUD programs, ease some of its regulations and, working with Congress, will look into changing HUD’s name to better reflect the agency’s priorities and mission.
