On May 23, the House Financial Services Committee (HFSC) held a well-attended hearing titled “Protecting Homeowners and Taxpayers with FHFA Director Sandra Thompson.” A focal point of the hearing was the recent changes made by the FHFA to the GSE Loan-Level Price Adjustments, with Republicans criticizing these changes and Democrats offering support. Additionally, Thompson was pressed on plans to transition Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac out of conservatorship, as well as the FHFA’s modifications to credit scoring models. Additional topics covered included the FHFA’s review of the Federal Home Loan Bank system, GSE credit risk transfer programs, and renewing GSE reperforming and non-performing loan sales.
