Buyers are choosing to stay out of the homebuying market as they struggle with mortgage rates well above pre-pandemic levels as well as persistently high prices. While residential construction starts grew by 5.2 percent in July, total permit issuance fell by 2.8 percent, a sign that homebuilders are slowing down on new construction.
