According to Politico, federal financial regulators are expected to release a new Basel III proposal this summer. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that lowering capital requirements would be a top priority. The re-proposed rule would focus on lowering supplemental leverage ratio (SLR) to make it easier for banks to buy and sell U.S. treasuries without having to hold capital against them.
