Consumer Goods Rising at Fastest Rate in 40 Years

The February 10 Consumer Price Index, which measures the changes in the prices paid by consumers for a basket of consumer goods and services, showed a year-over-year change of 7.5% in January, the highest level in 40 years, beating broad market expectations of 7.3%. The faster than expected surge in inflation could result in a more aggressive policy response from the Federal Reserve starting with a 50 bp rate hike in March.
