The Fed’s newly released Update on the Economic Well-Being of U.S. Households: July 2020 Results shows that Americans “experiencing employment disruptions were disproportionately likely to have difficulty paying bills, on average.” While data continues to show some real improvements in the labor market and federal financial assistance has provided much needed support to the unemployed worker, heightened uncertainty remains, as noted by Federal Reserve Chair Powell at the September FOMC meeting.
