Giving Back to our Communities: The Structured Finance Foundation

“2020 was a significant one for the Structured Finance Foundation as we announced four new scholarships in partnership with Mentor Foundation USA for high school seniors, held the first Virtual Fitness Challenge and established a new scholarship fund with the University of the District of Columbia. Our foundation continues to look for ways to make a difference in the lives of students, diversify our fundraising efforts and fulfill our mission of helping those in need build a better future.”

Former Structured Finance Foundation Board Chair

UDC Partnership

In 2020, the Structured Finance Foundation established a fund to provide scholarships to eligible students attending the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), a public historically black university, who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate finance, accounting or economics degree in its School of Business and Public Administration. The Structured Finance Foundation scholarship launched with an initial commitment of $80,000 and will grant two need-and merit-based scholarships annually in an amount up to $10,000 each starting in the Fall 2021 semester.

This new scholarship fund will complement the non-financial SFA and UDC partnership focused on curriculum input, educational briefings, job search support, informal mentorship opportunities, and full-time paid summer internships, and further contributes to the full suite of SFA’s initiatives which seek to promote diversity and inclusion in the securitization industry.

The Structured Finance Foundation on Friday, May 13, 2022 honored recipients of a scholarship it established at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) for students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, accounting, or economics in the School of Business and Public Administration. Manda Burnham and Hansi Lara Cruz were both awarded a $10,000 scholarship at a ceremony on campus.

Mentor Foundation & Scholarship America Partnership

The Structured Finance Foundation also partners with Mentor Foundation USA, and Scholarship America to further educational opportunities for underserved youth who have successfully completed Mentor Foundation USA’s Career Mentoring or Youth Ambassador programs. To date, the Structured Finance Foundation has awarded 33 students nearly $850,000 in college scholarships as a result of this partnership.

First Book

As the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic increased economic and social constraints on schools and businesses, it is critical to continue helping one another.  The Structured Finance Foundation is pleased to partner with First Book, a nationwide organization that is providing critical supplies to kids in underprivileged communities who are in dire need of assistance, whose purpose falls squarely within the Foundation’s mission of “helping those in need build a better future”.  Please remember those around you in need and consider donating to the Foundation.
