On March 29, the U.S. Senate voted to advance the nomination of Lisa Cook to serve on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors out of the Senate Banking Committee. Since the committee vote on her nomination was a 12-12 tie, the full Senate vote on the motion to discharge was necessary in order to advance her nomination. Cook, a Professor of Economics and International Relations at Michigan State University, will now move to a full Senate floor vote alongside Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, current Fed Governor Lael Brainard as Vice Chair, and Philip Jefferson as Governor.
