On December 14, President Joe Biden announced the nomination of Sandra Thompson to serve as Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). Thompson, a career regulator, would serve a 5-year term heading the agency responsible for overseeing Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Her nomination, which is expected to face minimal opposition from the mortgage industry, will now head to the Senate for confirmation.
In a press release, SFA applauded the nomination of Sandra Thompson with CEO Michael Bright expressing, “Acting Director Thompson has demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring market liquidity and stability,” and stated her, “record as an advocate for sensible housing policies speaks for itself and has been a welcome dynamic at FHFA.”
