With President-elect Biden set to take office in January, Trump officials could spend the next two months making any final changes to the GSEs before the Biden administration takes over. Some of these final changes could include Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director Calabria finalizing his recapitalization plans of the GSEs and establishing roadmaps towards releasing the GSEs from conservatorship. Industry experts warn that any changes started by the FHFA but not finalized by January 20 could face serious issues as they would require a Biden Administration sign-off. While President-elect Biden hasn’t finalized his policy platform regarding the GSEs, there is speculation that his plan would focus on using the GSEs to support housing affordability.
