As covered in HousingWire, SFA submitted a letter and executive summary to the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) on Monday, August 31, regarding their proposed Enterprise Regulatory Capital Framework. Within the letter, SFA commented that it would be imprudent to release the GSEs from conservatorship without clarifying what role the government would have in the future. Given that a return to a reliance on an implied guarantee is a dangerous approach, SFA recommends that implementation of any final capital rule be suspended until serious threshold questions are adequately resolved.
