On March 15, Acting Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Allison Herren Lee, gave a speech at the Center for American Progress, in which she set forth a regulatory agenda that centers on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) topics. Lee stated, “Investors are demanding more and better information on climate and ESG, and that demand is not being met by the current voluntary framework.” The SEC issued a request for public comment on climate change disclosures, publishing questions for consideration that market participants should utilize in their responding to the SEC.
