After meeting with businesses and labor groups about the state of the economy, President-elect Biden called on Congress to pass a broad stimulus package similar to the $3.4 trillion “HEROES Act” passed by the House Democratic majority in May. Biden warned of a “very dark winter” and noted that things “could get very tough” if agreement on a second stimulus deal is not reached. During the meeting, businesses warned the President-elect failure to provide added stimulus could be very harmful to the frontline workers who “keep us safe and keep our economy running.” Over the past few weeks, Senate Republicans have urged passage of their own $500 billion relief package, arguing it is more “highly targeted.”
