In a recent Brown Brothers Harriman survey, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing is one of two areas – along with core index products – that European investors hope to see exchange-traded fund (ETF) providers develop further. True to its recent increase in popularity, 73% of European investors who responded to the survey said they plan to invest further in ESG in the coming year. Ryan Sullivan, Senior Vice President of Global Exchange-Traded Fund Services at BBH, pointed out that, “it should come as no surprise that ESG investing has captured the attention of the financial industry. European investors are sending a clear message: ESG is immensely important to their portfolio construction.”
