The Bureau of Labor Statistics report on job openings and labor turnover (JOLTS), released December 8, showed a decrease by 4.7% in voluntary separations. As a rate of the workforce, the quits rate fell from a record high of 3% in September to 2.8% in October. At the same time job openings continued to expand, 11.03 million posted job openings, for a rate of 6.9% up from 6.7% last month. Employment trends are under scrutiny by the Federal Reserve as it discusses accelerating the tapering of its bond purchases.
