On Tuesday, June 9, Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson and Federal Housing Finance Authority (FHFA) Director Mark Calabria appeared before the Senate Banking Committee for a hearing titled “Oversight of Housing Regulators.” A significant amount of the time was devoted to Committee members channeling concerns about racial inequality to Secretary Carson over proposed changes to HUD’s anti-discrimination rules. The hearing also covered oversight discussions on the state of the housing market, and briefly touched on the FHFA’s re-proposed enterprise capital rule. Director Calabria also revealed the FHFA will decide within a week whether to extend the agency’s foreclosure and eviction moratoriums for single family homes that expire at the end of the month.
