A new report from Moody’s Analytics highlights that one of the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is the growth of the sustainable debt market. Moody’s predicts that the market could grow by $50 billion this year reaching a total of $375 billion. However, the firm also reports that green bonds could be losing their appeal as they predict between $175 billion and $225 billion could be issued this year, down from the $258 billion sold to investors last year. The report attributes this to the impact of the pandemic, highlighting that it has intensified “the focus of companies, investors and other stakeholders” to tackle a variety of issues such as climate change and public health.
