Founder and CEO of BlackRock investments Larry Fink, in his annual letter to chief executives, announced that future investment decisions would be made with sustainability as a core goal. “Awareness is rapidly changing, and I believe we are on the edge of a fundamental reshaping of finance,” Mr. Fink wrote in the letter. “The evidence on climate risk is compelling investors to reassess core assumptions about modern finance.” While many companies and investors have committed to environmentally-focused investments, the largest firms have shied away from making such a commitment. Given this, the move by Blackrock may spur national conversation.
