About the Role
Located in Chicago, the individual will be responsible for overseeing the ongoing surveillance of a portfolio of CMBS transactions rated by DBRS Morningstar, working closely with all levels of the management team to ensure transaction reviews are completed within the expected timelines and that events impacting transactions at the loan and bond level are addressed.
The individual will manage an analytical team and assist in the training and development of junior team members. As a senior member of the surveillance team, the individual will review analysts’ credit committee presentations and disclosures and provide constructive feedback and will ensure regulatory and other criteria are followed. The individual will manage ongoing quality assurance and process improvement functions with the goal of strengthening and streamlining the surveillance process through the development of various internal reports and analytical tools.

Job Responsibilities
– Oversee the day to day ratings activities for a team of NA CMBS Surveillance analysts.
– Review credit committee documents, press releases, loan commentaries and rating reports completed by analysts across the group.
– Work with the Vice President, N.A. CMBS Surveillance responsible for quality assurance and workflow management, to provide management support and guidance for those functions.
– Work with internal NA CMBS Surveillance team members, and liaise with external parties, such as members of the Credit Operations Team, to maintain and develop analytical tools and automated administrative systems.
– Explain ratings approaches and credit views to issuers, bankers and investors.
– Identify trends and events that could be used to create research pieces, commentaries and webinar content.
– Occasionally perform site visits for properties securing loans in DBRS Morningstar-rated transactions.
Qualifications
– A minimum of 10 years of experience in a commercial real estate finance related field.
– A degree in finance, real estate or a related area.
– Analytical and highly attentive to detail.
– Experience managing analytic teams.
– Project management and/or structured process improvement experience is preferred.
– Ability to work in a regulated environment governed by frequent deadlines and fast turnaround times for deliverables.
– Highly poised with excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
– Strong proficiency in Excel and an intellectual curiosity to develop new applications and to perform complex analyses.
– Well-developed business writing skills.
