About the Role
- The Real Estate team of DBRS Morningstar is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong analytical and interpersonal skills and some understanding of the real estate sector to join the team in Toronto as a Senior Financial Analyst.
- As a member of the Corporate Finance – Real Estate group, the Senior Analyst’s primary responsibilities will be to support lead analysts in their responsibilities to manage portfolios of various credits, including the ongoing analysis and surveillance of specific credits.
- The general sectors that comprise the portfolios include: real estate investment trusts, real estate operating companies, and pension plan owned real estate entities.
- Analysts will be expected to have or to develop a solid understanding of each of the credits they are assigned to work on, perform financial statement analysis, use financial models, draft written reports including compilation of rating committee material, press releases, rating reports, commentaries and industry studies, and build proficiency in overall credit analysis.
- In addition, the Senior Financial Analyst will also be expected to maintain a broad knowledge of industry issues and data in the real estate sector.
- This role reports into the Managing Director of Real Estate & Public Finance and the lead analyst on rating assignments to which they are assigned for the duration of such assignments.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform financial statement analysis
- Maintain financial spreadsheets of debt issuers historic results and financial projections
- Contribute text and analysis for rating reports under supervision of lead analysts with eventuality of drafting press releases, credit reports and commentaries with minimal guidance and errors
- Assist with the preparation of rating committee materials
- Assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory and company policies and procedures
- Support IT initiatives for management, tracking and documentation of rating work
- Examine and analyze financial information and data to ensure accuracy in internal systems
- Track key economic and industry indicators and various asset class metrics
- Provide research and analysis of major industry trends affecting the credit of various asset classes with guidance from the lead analysts
- Perform consistently accurate credit analysis with guidance from lead analysts
- Develop understanding and experience with legal documentation related to credit analysis
- Develop client-communication skills with increasing client interaction over time
- Demonstrate a well-developed understanding of the industries
Qualifications
- Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in business, finance or an analytical field of study
- CFA Designation or enrollment in the CFA program is preferred
- Minimum of 2 years related experience
- Strong analytical abilities and extensive knowledge of financial statements
- Acute attention to detail
- Understand the DBRS real estate rating methodology, including relevant credit metrics to provide credit analysis
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Bloomberg and SNL skills
