GSEs at the Top of the Agenda in 2026

House Financial Services Committee (HFSC) Chair French Hill (R-AR) and Housing and Insurance Subcommittee Chair Mike Flood (R-NE) underscored the importance of Congress, in any plan, to release the GSEs from government conservatorship. Rep. Flood, in an interview with Punchbowl News, stated that members will continue to learn about the GSEs to create a best path forward, especially with regards to an implicit guarantee by the federal government.
