About JA Entrepreneurship Summit
The JA Entrepreneurship Summit is an intensive “startup boot camp” where high school students are challenged to design ready-to-launch, socially conscious businesses. The experience culminates in a pitch presentation to a panel of esteemed business leaders.
Over the course of five days, students utilize technology to brainstorm and collaborate with peers, access mini-seminars and workshops, and learn from business leaders and trained volunteer student company advisors. By participating, students develop the technical and soft skills needed to not only become successful entrepreneurs, but also to meet the demands of a rapidly changing economy in a variety of professions and careers.
Challenge
Students are challenged with proposing business ideas addressing an issue in their community. In addition to proposing an idea for a product or service, students will be tasked with devising a marketing campaign, developing a business model that allows for growth and sustainability, and preparing a business pitch.
Challenge issues: Climate Change, Pollution and Sustainability, Mental Health, Homelessness, and Physical Health.
Instructors and Business Coaches
Instructors will bring their personal expertise and experience to their volunteer roles. As an instructor, you will prepare in advance and deliver Junior Achievement’s proven “JA Be Entrepreneurial” curriculum, including Creative Problem Solving and Rapid Business Planning. Instructors will work in teams of two to four to deliver lessons and lead discussions. Business coaches will support student teams during break outs as students work on applying their lessons to the student activities and deliverables.
