POSITION SUMMARY
The Structured Finance Association (“SFA”) is seeking a Director of Government Relations with a strong financial services background to serve as a peer to our existing Director. Reporting to the Global Head of Advocacy, this role will focus on advancing advocacy strategies for SFA’s policy priorities. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience engaging policymakers, deep knowledge of financial markets, and the ability to navigate complex legislative and regulatory environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
– Engage with SFA member firms’ government relations teams to coordinate advocacy efforts and amplify industry positions on legislative and/or regulatory items of importance.
– Work collaboratively with the GR Team to develop and execute bipartisan strategies on SFA’s policy priorities.
– Serve as liaison to Congressional offices, develop, maintain, and grow key relationships on Capitol Hill as well as with relevant regulatory agencies when assigned.
– Monitor federal legislative and regulatory developments impacting the structured finance market, providing timely analysis and strategic guidance to SFA leadership and member firms.
– Work with SFA’s Policy Team and membership to develop responses to legislative proposals affecting the structured finance industry.
– Effectively communicate and negotiate with policymakers regarding SFA’s policy positions to drive legislative and regulatory outcomes.
– Represent SFA’s perspectives at briefings, roundtables, and industry events.
– Attend Congressional hearings and report back to executive staff and SFA members.
– Establish and maintain an active professional political network within financial services.
– Support the association’s PAC through strategy development, fundraising efforts, and administration.
– Partner with other trade associations to advance shared policy objectives.
– Attend PAC events on behalf of SFA.
Occasional out-of-town travel will be required. The list of responsibilities is not exhaustive, and there may be other activities you are required to deliver depending on business needs.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
– 7+ years of relevant federal advocacy experience as a Congressional staffer or federal government relations professional (e.g. trade association, in-house corporate, etc.).
– Demonstrated skill in proactively building relationships with policymakers, regulators, lobbyists, and key decision makers.
– Ability to explain complex financial issues to key constituents and willingness to assertively advocate on subject matter.
– Team player with strong leadership capabilities who works well in cross-functional settings.
– Comprehensive understanding of the federal legislative process.
– Familiarity with Lobby Disclosure Act reporting requirements, House and Senate Ethics Rules, and lobbying regulations.
– Analytical and critical thinking skills to assess regulatory risks and opportunities.
– Experience preparing and delivering effective summaries on complex issues.
– Ability to navigate complex political environments.
– Excellent and persuasive communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate at senior levels.
– Ability to execute in a high-demand environment while balancing multiple priorities.
DESIRED
– Recent tenure as a Congressional staffer, preferably with the House Financial Services, Senate Banking, or Senate Finance Committees.
– Previous experience within the finance industry.
– Familiarity with trade associations.
A reasonable estimate of the total compensation range for this role is $175,000-$275,000. This range represents the company’s good-faith estimate of the range of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, geographic location, training, licensure and certification, and other factors.
